Provisional Call for Papers: The Cultural Techniques of Law

Announcing a provisional call for papers for a media-theoretically oriented workshop entitled “The Cultural Techniques of Law” taking place in Helsinki, Finland, 17-19 January 2024. Keynote by Markus Krajewski (Basel).

The workshop is inspired by the work of legal scholar and media theorist Cornelia Vismann and aims to further investigate the potential of her seemingly unlikely disciplinary pairing: law and media theory. In addition to papers on legally relevant cultural techniques (courthouse details, etc.) or legal aspects of media theory (digital repositories of legislation or case law, etc.), possible themes are also expected to include various takes on new materialism, post-humanism, the Anthropocene, actor network theory, etc., all of which share commonalities with contemporary media theory. Call for papers opens officially on 5 April 2023.
